Week 2 begins…..

Welcome back fellow bloggers,

My placement blogs continue here with the beginning of week 2.

This week has a lot more formality about it. As I have already been here for a week everything is a lot more structured with all my priorities and what is expected of me. I am enjoying being in the school and learning the daily routines of a teacher. Attending morning staff briefings and after school staff meetings are starting to feel normal, along with the dreaded yard duty! (lucky my duty is near the canteen!)

This week sees the introduction of a few more lessons with ICT and seeing how they involves the students and how they react to the implementation of them. Some are ICTs they had already used and I used a couple that were new to them. So it was interesting to see how they reacted. Generally speaking it all went pretty well. was a few teething problems.

Again got some insightful feedback from my mentors form classes I taught as well as gaining information about classes I observed and why they did certain things they way they did.

Overall had a great week 2. only downfall is I know that was only 1 week left!

until next time…….

Cheers

Placment Week 1 Wrap up!

Good afternoon fellow bloggers,

Well it the week one placement wrap up, the week has just flown by. I cannot believe im am a third of the way through already. I do not want this to end.

I have already taken plenty of notes on my observations. Especially being my first placement in a metropolitan school, I have taken a lot in with regards to classroom and behaviour management.

I have taught my first lesson which went really well, and got some great feedback. That included both positive and negative feedback.

I have also been introduced into some really great initiatives that the school has employed to help with lifting their students literacy levels, whilst also focusing on professional development with the teachers.

I also was able to arrange to attend and teach extra classes with another teacher. which is great as I get to see more students and get feedback from not only my mentor but also what I guess you could call my second mentor.

onwards and upwards towards week 2!

until next time…..

Cheers

Prac Week 1…….Day 1……

Good morning fellow bloggers,

Well it was the first day of placement, I arrived at the school, rather nervous not knowing what was in front of me. I was introduced to the placement officer and shown around the school, the tension slowly eased.

As the induction went on, I realised I was lucky and I think the placement was going to be ok. Then I was going to go meet my mentor, and he wasn’t in that day. I thought great just when I thought it was going great guns, it all started to go down hill. However this turned out to be a blessing in disguise, as I was able to meet other teachers within the faculty. this made it easier later in prac for viewing and taking further classes outside of my mentors load. Then later that day my mentor ended up coming to school, so it turned out well for the first day. We went through my timetable and what I was going to observe and teach and working through a few things.

After all the stress and tension of the first day I went back to my accommodation feeling a little more at ease compared to the start of the day when I was waiting at the front office.

Stay tuned for more insights to my placement in coming blogs.

Until next time….

Cheers

Assignment 3

Good morning fellow bloggers,

Assignment 3 due date, I hope all are travelling along nicely with finishing assignment 3, if you haven’t already. It is a long one but is good to reflect on our placement! hope everyone’s heads are not about to explode.

I cam across Bethany’s blog about assignment 3,  it has some interesting insights into some ‘Do’s and Don’ts’. It is a good read an suggest you have a look if you have time.

Just another bonus tip for assignment 3 part D, I recommend doing the last learning path, as it breaks down quite an effective way of attacking part D if you want to get good grades for this subject.

Until next time,

Cheers

Staff enagaement and ICT

Good Morning Bloggers,

Today’s topic you guessed it ICT! But in reflection to teachers and how they use it.

Some students have said that while on prac they had limited use to ICT as their mentor did not incorporate it in their lesson, on the other hand their were students commenting that their mentor had great use of ICT and used it effectively in engaging students.

ICT can also be used to engage staff as well, Elly’s post talks about how a staff meeting she attended. As it was a ICT based prac she took special not of all the technology being used, whether it be for the students, staff or others. The Blog also has links to uses of technology that Elly saw implemented.

Until next time,

Cheers

Relaxation

Good Morning all fellow bloggers,

As the end of semester is drawing closer, those final assignments and exams are on our door step. As we all know these days that turn into weeks can be rather daunting and making sure we look after ourselves is vital for our health and also completing our courses to the best of our ability.

I have attached some links on relaxation that can help reduce your stress levels at this critical time f the year. One is from WebMD, it provides you with ’10 Relaxation Techniques That Zap Stress Fast’. It may be of some use to you.

I also have a lint to BeyondBlue, whish has a great poster, again with a few techniques for overcoming that onset of stress from that assignment deadline, or that dreaded exam this week!

I hope this links can help you in some way, if you have been on task and already finished for the semester it might pay to book mark the links for upcoming semesters.

Until next time,

Cheers

Long Weekend……

Hi to all my fellow bloggers,

I hope all fellow students are having a productive long weekend! hopefully everyone is chipping away nicely at the assignment and can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

As we are coming along in our educational journey as pre service teachers, I believe it is important to have a strong support system around you. whether it be to obtain help, bounce ideas around or even offering help to others. The ability to have people to communicate and work co operatively with can only be advantageous for any work place, although it’s importance is far greater in the educational setting.

Thus I find it important to stay in contact with fellow students and learn from them as well as the course content. In say that if you have the time have a read of Tahlia’s blog, it is a great read on the importance of ICTs.

Cheers

USQ… Helping us out

Good evening Bloggers,

Tonight’s post I’m looking at a couple of links that might be a help read for the weekend ahead.

The first site talk about how you can harness technology to enhance and benefit you study techniques. This link provides you with a few handy hints on how to keep up to date with the technology and what the best advice is in using to your advantage.

The second site is the USQ social hub. This site is a handy site to keep and eye on and maybe even add to your favourites list. it has many different tabs, including blog posts, photos, videos, slides and access to the Hey U university magazine. If you haven’t had a look at this site yet I suggest you have a look.

I hope you all have a great weekend.

Cheers

Hello again to all my blogger followers,

Todays post is looking at the struggle of university life. If you are like me you are trying to juggle work, university and social life! This can be a very ambiguous task and many may struggle with this.

Elly has a rather insightful blog regarding stresses in relation to your study.

Elly also talks about how important your mental health is. and looks at “how good mental health is associated with”:

– “higher productivity”
– “ability to make good life choices”
– “ability to handle the natural ups and downs of life”
– “healthy relationships”
– “physical health and wellbeing”

Elly also makes link to Nicole’s post on time management which can also be useful in making sure you use you plan you time wisely, allowing for plenty of work rest and play!

Extra Extra read all about it! New teachers!

Good afternoon fellow bloggers,

This post is just to present you with the link to an interesting article I found for new teachers. As we are studying this course as pre service teachers I though it might be useful for some to have a quick read.

I looks at a number of different issues faced by new teachers. the interesting part of the article is that it actually looks at both primary and secondary setting so it is applicable read for teachers aspiring for either setting.

There are some really interesting parts of the article. I have posted a few blogs which have ha links to article, however I think this has been the most interesting read out of all of them. So if you haven’t taken the time to read any of mine yet I highly recommend taking the time to read this one. It might actually be really useful for you, especially with teaching round coming up.

Cheers
